About The Position

Tandem Physical Therapy & Pilates is establishing a new Strength & Longevity department and is seeking a coach to help build it from the ground up. This role involves shaping the programming, systems, client experience, schedule, and culture of the new department, in collaboration with the Physical Therapy and Pilates teams. The focus is on helping adults, particularly those in their 50s and beyond, build meaningful strength, stay active, and maintain confidence in their bodies. The department aims to challenge individuals intelligently, moving beyond basic exercises to incorporate progressive resistance training, barbell and kettlebell work, and functional strength development, all while considering orthopedic histories and life stages like menopause.

Requirements

  • Strong background in progressive strength training.
  • Comfortable coaching barbells, kettlebells, dumbbells, loaded carries, and other forms of meaningful resistance training.
  • Understanding of foundational powerlifting movements and how to teach, regress, modify, and progress them appropriately.
  • Ability to design individualized strength programs based on client goals, abilities, orthopedic history, and available equipment.
  • Ability to teach clients how to successfully carry out programs independently.
  • Understanding of how to appropriately progress load, volume, intensity, and exercise complexity over time.
  • Knowledge of common orthopedic conditions and their implications for exercise.
  • Ability to confidently work with adults who have previous injuries or orthopedic considerations.
  • Knowledgeable about, or strongly interested in, perimenopause and menopause.
  • Ability to safely and confidently challenge adults in their 50s, 60s, 70s and beyond.
  • Interest in strength, healthy aging, longevity, mobility, power, balance, and maintaining independence.
  • Dependable, proactive, flexible, and willing to take ownership.
  • Excited about helping build something from the ground up.
  • Kindness, compassion, and the ability to build trust and confidence.

Responsibilities

  • Help create and shape the programming, systems, client experience, schedule, and culture of the new Strength & Longevity department.
  • Develop individualized strength programming for clients, teaching them proper technique, appropriate loading, exercise selection, progression, and how to adjust their training independently.
  • Teach clients how to confidently use gym equipment such as barbells, kettlebells, and squat racks.
  • Assess clients, understand their history and goals, determine their capabilities, modify exercises when necessary, and progressively challenge them.
  • Work with clients who may have orthopedic histories, are navigating menopause, or are in their 60s and 70s, understanding how to challenge them safely.
  • Communicate and collaborate with Physical Therapists and other healthcare and wellness professionals.
  • Adapt to a flexible schedule that will evolve based on client demand and program growth.
  • Contribute ideas and expertise to develop the department's offerings.
  • Build trust, confidence, and independence in clients through coaching.
