About The Position

The purpose of this position is to improve and eliminate potential hazards by maintaining the City’s right of ways, roads, and sidewalks in a safe and efficient manner.

Requirements

• Valid North Carolina Driver’s License
• Ability to obtain a North Carolina Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker Endorsement within 6 months of hire date.
• Knowledge of machinery and hand tools of the trade
• Knowledge of asphalt, concrete, and vegetation management principles
• Knowledge of traffic control principles
• Reading and interpreting data
• Performing basic mathematical calculations
• Operating machinery and hand tools
• Communication, interpersonal skills as applied to interaction with coworkers, supervisor, the general public, etc. sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Responsibilities

• Maintains, installs, and/or repairs City grounds, right of ways, facilities, sidewalks, and roadways as needed.
• Operates construction equipment, including heavy equipment, hand tools, and heavy machinery or large trucks.
• Loads truck with supplies and materials needed to complete the job and performs preventative maintenance.
• Responds to emergency inclement weather such as ice, snow, and flooding.
• Performs other similar duties as required.
