About The Position

Sweeping Corporation of America (SCA) is hiring a full-time Street Sweeper in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The role operates a street sweeper and specialized equipment on assigned routes to provide street-sweeping services that support public safety and environmental quality. The position pays $23–$24 per hour and is eligible for a first pay increase after six months. There is no travel requirement, and the schedule may include flexible day and night shifts. The Street Sweeper is responsible for completing assigned jobs safely, efficiently, and to expected quality standards. Duties include reviewing routes, inspecting equipment before and after trips, operating equipment in compliance with traffic laws and safety procedures, handling and disposing of materials correctly, completing required documentation, and promptly reporting incidents or equipment issues. The role requires reliable attendance, professional communication, and adaptability to changing conditions. Work is performed outdoors, with regular exposure to weather, traffic, and the elements. The job also involves operating specialized equipment and using required personal protective equipment. Physical demands include frequent sitting and walking or standing; occasional bending, twisting, squatting, kneeling, pushing, and pulling; and the ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at varying heights, including overhead.

Requirements

High school diploma or GED.
One year of DOT driving experience.
CDL-B license.
DOT Medical Card.
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must maintain an acceptable driving record and successfully pass a motor vehicle record check, background check, and drug screening in accordance with company policy and applicable law.
Ability to follow safety procedures, conduct inspections, operate equipment responsibly, and comply with traffic, site, and regulatory requirements.
Ability to plan routes, complete work efficiently and accurately, adapt to changing conditions, and maintain dependable attendance.
Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and teammates, represent the company professionally, and promptly report equipment issues, incidents, or safety concerns.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds at varying heights, including overhead.
Ability to use specialized equipment and hand and foot controls, with fine motor skills.

Responsibilities

Perform required pre-trip and post-trip equipment inspections and ensure safety features are operational before starting a route.
Review assigned routes before departure and ask clarifying questions when route details or expectations are unclear.
Complete assigned jobs within the allotted timeframe while meeting quality and attention-to-detail expectations.
Operate street-sweeping equipment safely and efficiently, following traffic laws, company procedures, and site-specific protocols.
Use additional caution during inclement weather or challenging site conditions.
Handle materials safely and securely, using the correct procedures for material types and disposal sites.
Report equipment issues, malfunctions, near misses, crashes, and injuries within 30 minutes or as soon as safely possible.
Escalate opportunities, work issues, and safety concerns to management promptly.
Maintain a professional attitude and appearance on job sites and in public areas.
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and clients when needed.
Accurately complete required logs, manifests, and forms.
Respond appropriately to changes and challenges and identify and resolve issues in a timely manner.
Report to work on time and as scheduled, remain prepared throughout assigned shifts, and adhere reliably to start times, breaks, and end times.
