Street Outreach Counselor
About The Position
The Outreach and Youth Engagement Specialist engages runaway, homeless and street youth (RHY) to increase their access to community resources addressing medical, mental health, financial, emergency shelter, basic living, and safety needs. The role assists youth in crisis intervention, problem solving, action planning, and skill building to address immediate life and safety issues, reduce the risk of sexual exploitation and abuse, and reduce or prevent homelessness. The position also recruits, trains, and supports RHY who participate in The Center's Speakers Bureau and Youth Advisory Board. The Center for Youth partners with youth to realize their full potential by creating opportunities, removing barriers, and promoting social justice. Requirements
- Bachelor's degree and one year of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of experience and education.
- Valid driver's license.
- Strong communication and literacy skills.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office and Internet Explorer.
Responsibilities
- Provide crisis intervention.
- Conduct screening and assessment.
- Provide individual counseling and case management.
- Conduct community outreach at locations where youth are known to congregate.
- Implement and staff the Speakers Bureau and Youth Advisory Board.
- Maintain client confidentiality in accordance with Center policies.
- Assess referral readiness and provide referral services.
- Maintain accurate and timely case and program records.
- Manage time effectively to meet responsibilities.
- Engage youth to offer services and referrals.
