About The Position

The Street Maintenance Superintendent is the highest supervisory class in the Street Maintenance Supervisor series and is responsible for directing the field activities of the Street Maintenance Division. This role involves coordinating, assigning, and directing personnel engaged in street maintenance, including preparing job cost estimates, ensuring compliance, and maintaining project records. The position plans, schedules, and maintains records for street projects, monitors ongoing projects, and supervises and coordinates the division's work in construction, maintenance, street repair, sidewalks, alleys, curbs, gutters, storm drains, electrical work, and urban forest. Responsibilities include inspecting and ensuring compliance with various contracts, assigning, supervising, monitoring, inspecting, and evaluating subordinate employees in the maintenance of publicly owned rights of way, streets, and alleys. The role also involves maintaining records of projects, time, location, and type of work performed by subordinates, assisting in the development and implementation of divisional safety and training programs, preparing job cost estimates, and receiving, investigating, and processing public complaints. The Street Maintenance Superintendent directs the division in the absence of the Public Works Manager and performs related duties as required. One vacancy exists in the Street Maintenance Division of the Public Works Department. Immediate and future vacancies will be filled from this eligible list for a period of three (3) months from the date the eligible list is created, with the option of extending that period for up to a maximum of two years at the City's discretion. If the examination process is suspended for this recruitment, the eligible list may be limited to three (3) months.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of supervisory experience in street maintenance operations or field construction operations.
  • Twelve (12) units of accredited college or university coursework in engineering, construction, public or business administration. An additional year of qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education.
  • Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Driver's License.
  • Proof of a valid driver's license and current copy of driving record.
  • Successful completion of a department interview.
  • Successful completion of a Department of Justice fingerprint background check.
