About The Position

The Maintenance Superintendent at JBS USA's Omaha, NE Beef Plant is responsible for supervising workers engaged in installing, servicing, and repairing mechanical equipment, as well as maintaining plant equipment, buildings, and facilities. This role involves planning, organizing, and directing manufacturing and maintenance operations to ensure the most effective return on assets and minimize manufacturing costs through efficient utilization of resources. The superintendent will utilize a working knowledge of various technical systems including electrical, plumbing, welding, hydraulics, pneumatics, and instrumentation to maintain plant equipment at optimal levels. Responsibilities include managing preventative maintenance records, issuing weekly maintenance schedules, overseeing all physical plant facilities, identifying and resolving issues, preparing and controlling departmental budgets, and participating in capital projects. The role also involves supporting the Processing Operating System, managing maintenance KPIs, environmental and energy initiatives, mentoring staff, ensuring safety compliance, interpreting and enforcing company policies, and collaborating with operations for smooth production floor functioning.

Requirements

5 years’ management experience
Minimum 5 years maintenance experience preferably in a food processing plant, but experience in a highly regulated large industrial or manufacturing environment will be considered.
Extensive experience maintaining & managing building services/systems using contractors & staff.
Experience with WHMIS, Health & Safety.
High School Diploma/GED equivalent preferred but not required, college degree preferred but not required.
Must have a working knowledge of preventative maintenance, Powerhouse, facilities, equipment, machinery, refrigeration, pipe fitting, plumbing, welding, ship machinery, sheet metal, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical controls and instrumentation and PLC controls in a lean manufacturing environment.
Proven knowledge of building & fire codes, health & safety standards.
Demonstrated understanding of fiscal management principles including interpretation of financial statements, budget planning and variance control.
Strong computer skills (systems, MS Office, and others).
Must be capable of becoming Haz-Mat team qualified.
Proven leadership and people management skills in a high paced, multicultural environment.
A self-motivated and results-oriented team player with strong people skills.

PMP and HACCP an asset.
Experience with quality improvement and risk management processes an asset.

Responsibilities

Supervises workers engaged in installing, servicing, and repairing mechanical equipment.
Supervises employees who maintain, repair and service plant equipment, buildings, and facilities.
Plan, organize and direct the manufacturing and maintenance operations to ensure the most effective return on assets.
Initiate plans and processes to minimize manufacturing costs through effective utilization of manpower, equipment, facilities, materials and capital.
Utilizes working knowledge of electrical systems, both control and industrial wiring, pip fitting, plumbing, welding, shop machinery, sheet metal, hydraulics, pneumatics, electrical controls and instrumentation to maintain plant equipment at optimal level.
Utilizes knowledge of automatic equipment operation to include setup, repair and tear down in order to maintain plant equipment at optimal levels, inspecting completed work for conformance to blueprints, specifications, and standards.
Maintain the plant Preventative Maintenance Records.
Send out maintenance schedules on a weekly basis.
Responsible for all physical plant facilities, systems and equipment.
Identify and monitor issues as they arise and implement solutions.
Prepare engineering and maintenance departmental operating budgets and control expenditures within approved budgets.
Responsible for supervising both minor and major capital projects.
Participate in the ongoing support of the Processing Operating System.
Manage maintenance KPI expectations, environmental and energy initiatives.
Mentor and supervise the activities of technical and administrative staff with approximately 3 direct reports and 19 indirect reports as well as external service providers.
Ensure safety compliance for buildings, equipment and staff.
Interprets company policy to employees and enforces company policy and practices.
Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists employees in solving work problems.
Maintains production equipment in a manner that meets organization standards and ensures minimum equipment downtime.
Requisitions tools, equipment, and supplies.
Contributes to the on-going development of JBS Omaha’s policies and procedures.
Collaborate with operations for smooth operation of production floor.
