About The Position

KGET in Bakersfield is seeking an experienced and imaginative producer to lead its streaming news platform. The ideal candidate should possess experience with traditional broadcast news, a creative understanding of streaming television's potential, and the ability to realize that potential. The goal is to develop the streaming channel into an institution comparable to the legacy No. 1 broadcast channel. The role involves envisioning the streaming potential of broadcast stories and guiding reporters to adapt these stories for the CTV platform. The successful candidate will also be responsible for conceptualizing and executing original streaming programming and must have the technical expertise to combine multiple broadcast stories into a single CTV show.

Requirements

Experienced, imaginative producer.
Experience with traditional broadcast news.
Creative understanding of the potential of streaming television and the ability to bring that understanding to fruition.
Ability to routinely envision the streaming potential of broadcast stories and then shepherd those stories – and those reporters – onto our CTV platform.
Ability to conceptualize and execute ideas for original streaming programming.
Technical know-how to combine several broadcast stories into a single CTV show.
Ability to work flexible hours, as needed.

Responsibilities

Recognize and practice teamwork and cooperation as a core value.
Produce shows and content.
Be an expert in the technical aspects of creating episodes and getting them into the app.
Help promote KGET+ and its shows across platforms.
Curate and aggregate a steady stream of interesting content packaged and promoted to generate engagement and repeat site visitation.
Familiarize with all available Nexstar streaming shows.
Recognize which Nexstar streaming shows would be of greatest interest to our particular audience.
Balance local and Nexstar content into a 24/7 schedule that draws the biggest audience.
Monitor all forms of media (print, TV, digital, blogs and social) and be the quickest to report breaking news stories.
Be on the hunt for exclusive and or trending content that will grow engagement and drive loyal, local traffic.
Understand different ways to tell a story, particularly producing short videos and choosing great photos.
Build positive working relationships with newsroom staff and management.
Work collaboratively on enterprise content.
Create opportunities to market web content on broadcast.
Train station members in streaming studio operations.
Oversee the streaming studios production calendar.
Work with engineering on issues / needs for streaming studios.
Assist the News Director in hiring, as needed.
Attend local editorial meetings as needed/assigned.
Have familiarity with local, regional, and national content and use data to make decisions on what stories to publish and how to showcase them on KGET+.
Take stories from newsroom and digital reporters and help package the content for optimal engagement.
