About The Position

This role combines strategic participant engagement with end-to-end communication project leadership. Supporting Empower’s Large, Mega, and Not-for-Profit (LMN) clients, the Strategist Participant Engagement is responsible for designing, managing, and measuring participant-focused initiatives across multiple channels—from virtual education to customized communications. This is a client-facing role that supports both ad-hoc and long-term strategic initiatives, improving participant outcomes while ensuring execution aligns with plan goals, regulatory compliance, and budget.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business, journalism, communications, finance, education, or related field.
  • Minimum of 5–7 years of experience in the retirement services industry, with strong knowledge of defined contribution, defined benefit, and non-qualified plans.
  • At least 5 years of experience in participant engagement, education, or communications, including multi-channel strategy development and campaign delivery.
  • Client management experience in corporate benefits, education, or marketing, with the ability to build relationships and drive consensus at all levels.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex financial concepts in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Advanced project management skills with the ability to manage multiple deliverables under tight timelines.
  • High competency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with tools like Workfront, Salesforce, and digital engagement platforms.
  • Familiarity with Generative AI tools, specifically to synthesize information to create engaging communications.
  • Understanding of budget management and reporting, with the ability to align campaign recommendations to client goals.
  • Adaptable to a fast-paced environment with seasonal volume fluctuations.
  • Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage participant communications and engagement strategies for LMN clients, including ad-hoc initiatives such as Merger & Acquisition transitions, plan design rollouts, and annual enrollment campaigns.
  • Develop and implement virtual-first, data-driven engagement approaches to influence participant behavior and drive measurable outcomes.
  • Serve as a trusted client consultant—presenting strategies, gaining consensus, and providing regular updates across multiple delivery formats (in person, virtual, and phone).
  • Partner closely with internal teams (e.g., Relationship Management, Communications, Education, Marketing, Product) and external stakeholders (clients, advisors, intermediaries) to define campaign scope, logistics, and success metrics.
  • Oversee all aspects of project workflow: planning, creative briefing, approvals, budget tracking, and metrics reporting.
  • Create and tailor engagement materials using both templates and custom assets, ensuring they align with client brand, plan design, and participant needs.
  • Make client recommendations that align with appropriate service model while improving ROI while supporting participant wellness.
  • Mentor less tenured team members and contribute to department strategy and innovation.
  • Manage a book of clients or projects and travel up to 20% of the time as needed.
