About The Position

Anthropic's Beneficial Deployments team focuses on bringing Claude to high-impact areas such as global health, life sciences, education, and economic mobility, primarily through partnerships with organizations already active in these fields. Many of these partnerships involve data or product collaborations to achieve Beneficial Deployment impact. The Strategic Data Partnerships team is responsible for structuring and finalizing these agreements, and we are seeking a business development lead to focus on this work. You will guide the deal process from initial concept to signature, including defining what partners and Anthropic aim to achieve together, designing mutually beneficial structures, negotiating terms, and ensuring post-agreement fulfillment. You will collaborate daily with Beneficial Deployments partner managers, our legal team, and the research and product teams responsible for utilizing the data or integration. This is a deal-making role, not a sales role, for individuals who excel at structuring strategic business development, are adept at deal strategy and operations, and are motivated by work that has a significant impact beyond commercial outcomes.

Requirements

  • A strong commitment to the public-benefit nature of this work.
  • 8+ years of experience, primarily in negotiating and closing agreements such as business development, strategic partnerships, licensing, data or content deals, corporate development, or similar.
  • Proven experience leading deals from term sheet to signature, including non-standard agreements.
  • Comfort negotiating complex terms related to rights, use restrictions, privacy, and security obligations, with the ability to work closely with legal counsel.
  • A track record of effective cross-functional collaboration, particularly with legal teams and relationship/program owners.
  • Ability to manage multiple agreements concurrently, maintain organization, and track agreed-upon terms with minimal external structure.
  • Strong judgment, including the ability to decline opportunities or propose alternative deal structures, and operate effectively with incomplete information.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience working with nonprofits, foundations, multilateral organizations, universities, health systems, or governments.
  • Familiarity with health, education, or research data and its governing frameworks.
  • Understanding of AI model development and evaluation, product integrations, and APIs.
  • Previous experience in an AI lab, platform company, or data business.

Responsibilities

  • Structure and close partnerships, working with partner managers and legal teams to define the scope of proposed partnerships and agreements, and deciding which opportunities to pursue, reshape, or decline.
  • Collaborate with partner managers and commercial counsel on deal structure and risk, and contribute to standardizing recurring deal patterns for efficiency and consistency.
  • Maintain a clear and up-to-date view of the partnership pipeline and communicate status updates across Beneficial Deployments, legal, research, and product teams.
