About The Position

We are looking for a Strategic Expense Analysis & Capabilities Manager to help shape and advance MassMutual’s expense management strategy. In this role, you will lead key initiatives, capabilities, and policies, including interpreting third-party benchmarking data, identifying actionable insights, and driving alignment across the organization. You will also partner closely with Procurement and Strategic Priorities to support delivery and execution. You will be most successful in this role if you bring experience in financial analysis and expense management, along with an understanding of life insurance, wealth management, and annuity products. This position requires strong cross-functional partnership, comfort working through ambiguity, and the ability to move quickly while bringing others along. Just as important, you can translate complex financial issues into clear business insights and explain what they mean for decision-making.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree
7+ years of experience in finance roles
Proven ability to work across a highly matrixed organization
3+ years of experience using advanced forecasting and strategic planning techniques, including activity-based costing and zero-based budgeting
3+ years of experience analyzing financial data and translating insights into clear recommendations for business leaders
Experience in financial analysis and expense management
Understanding of life insurance, wealth management, and annuity products
Strong cross-functional partnership skills
Comfort working through ambiguity
Ability to move quickly while bringing others along
Ability to translate complex financial issues into clear business insights and explain their implications for decision-making

Nice To Haves

Master’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or a related field

Responsibilities

Lead key initiatives, capabilities, and policies related to expense management.
Interpret third-party benchmarking data and identify actionable insights.
Drive alignment across the organization on expense management strategies.
Partner closely with Procurement and Strategic Priorities to support delivery and execution.
Support senior business unit leaders in all phases of the expense forecasting cycle.
Manage the expense base and identify/analyze opportunities for expense efficiencies.
Drive implementation of expense efficiency initiatives.
Guide expense strategy, align on enterprise priorities, and support company-wide expense goals.
Develop actionable reporting, models, and scenario analyses to improve visibility into expenses, headcount, pricing gaps, and savings opportunities.
Advance forecasting and planning capabilities by improving processes, automation, and tools.
Use benchmarking, unit cost frameworks, and policy analysis to identify opportunities for efficiency, strengthen governance, and inform business decisions.
Provide clear, fact-based insights and executive-ready materials to help leaders monitor progress, evaluate tradeoffs, and drive results.
