Strategic Controller

HumanlyBellevue, WA

About The Position

Humanly builds AI-native hiring software that turns recruiting from a reactive scramble into a predictable system. Built for hourly, frontline, and high-volume hiring, we don't just give teams tools — we deliver pre-vetted, ready-to-hire candidates on demand. Our AI conducts over 9,000 interviews a day for hundreds of customers, including Microsoft, Domino's, MGM Resorts, and Massage Envy. We recently closed a $25M Series B, and we're using it to accelerate what's already working: expanding the platform, growing the team, and deepening our reach with the companies who rely on us. Headquartered in Bellevue, WA with a team that spans the globe, we're at the stage where the foundation is built, the momentum is real, and the ceiling is wherever we decide to put it. We call ourselves Human Beans. We take ownership, move fast, and care about doing the right thing — for our customers, for candidates, and for each other. AI is core to what we build, and we're intentionally building a workplace where it's embedded in how we work too. We know the future is changing, and we're changing with it. If that's the kind of place where you do your best work, we'd love to meet you. The Role The controller role is changing. The best controllers today aren't just closing the books — they're building the data backbone that powers an entire company. They think in systems, manage software and AI alongside people, and understand that the data flowing through the ERP is the foundation everything else runs on. You think of yourself less as a traditional controller and more as an accounting and finance engineer - someone who builds, connects, and optimizes the financial systems that make a company run. We are hiring a Strategic Controller to be the thought partner in building the finance function for Humanly's next chapter. We want someone with strong opinions on how a modern accounting function should run, who thinks in systems, and who isn't afraid to push back when they see a better way. You'll partner with VP of Finance & Operations and the full leadership team — including our CEO — to make sure the financial infrastructure we build doesn't just serve finance, it serves the entire company. We've invested in an AI-native ERP. The groundwork is laid. We need someone to build on it and leverage it to empower the entire company to make better and faster decisions. This is a hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves, build-from-scratch role. You'll have AI and automation as your workforce before you have headcount - and that's by design. We're not building a large accounting department. We're building a modern finance function where one exceptional operator, armed with the right systems and AI tooling, can do what used to require a team. This is a role for someone who has been the senior-most accounting leader at a venture-backed SaaS company and has hands-on experience building out the tooling across the entire finance stack — and is ready to do it differently.

Requirements

  • 8–12 years of progressive accounting experience with a strong GAAP foundation, including professional accounting firm experience (Big 4 or equivalent) and an in-house role as the senior-most accounting leader (or top individual contributor driving close, consolidation, and reporting) at a high-growth, venture-backed B2B SaaS company that has scaled with 8-figure revenue
  • Demonstrated technical GAAP knowledge for audit-ready financials hitting close deadlines: ASC 606, multi-entity consolidation, equity compensation, and purchase price accounting.
  • Tangible hands-on experience building out the tooling and systems across the entire finance stack - ERP, billing, vendor payments, close management, reporting.
  • Experience with subscription and usage-based pricing and invoicing.
  • An “engineering” mindset - you don't just use existing systems, you build and optimize them. You think about data architecture, automation, and process for the finance system as a whole.
  • Obsession with data quality and accessibility - ERP data should power the entire company, not just finance.
  • Builder's mentality - comfortable rolling up your sleeves and building scalable systems from scratch.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA (active or inactive).
  • AI-Native ERP experience and experience building out AI-powered automations and workflows
  • Post-acquisition consolidation and operational integration experience.
  • Complex billing model experience: franchise structures, outcome based pricing, multi-party arrangements, hybrid billing
  • Quote-to-cash process design experience.
  • Bonus points for hands-on RevOps experience or strong cross-functional collaboration with RevOps teams.

Responsibilities

  • Build and own accounting end-to-end. GL, AP/AR, monthly close, and consolidated reporting across our parent entity and two subsidiaries.
  • Deliver accurate, GAAP-compliant financial statements and maintain audit readiness at all times.
  • Lead multi-entity consolidation and post-acquisition integration — aligning chart of accounts, harmonizing processes, and building toward a unified financial architecture.
  • Own SaaS revenue accounting (ASC 606) across subscription, usage-based, and outcome-based billing models with complex customer arrangements (franchise models, multi-entity relationships, expansion billing).
  • Own tax, treasury, and payroll. Oversee external tax and payroll providers across all entities. Own the relationships, ensure accuracy and timeliness, and manage compliance obligations — federal, state, local, and sales tax.
  • Oversee cash management and banking relationships so leadership always has clear visibility into cash position and runway.
  • Lead budgeting and financial governance. Build out team-level budgets, align systems to automate budget reporting, and implement consistent accounting policies and internal controls across all entities.
  • Prepare for and manage external audit — build the control framework, documentation, and own the auditor relationship.
  • Partner on real-time business metrics. Work directly with the VP of Finance to automate and scale reporting infrastructure — SaaS metrics, operational KPIs, and financial insights delivered in real-time, not just at month-end.
  • Own vendor management and procurement. Negotiate contracts, manage approvals, and maintain a centralized inventory of all SaaS tooling, hardware, and vendor relationships across the company.
  • Architect the quote-to-cash data backbone. Ensure clean data architecture across CRM, ERP, and GTM tooling.
  • Partner with product, engineering, and go-to-market teams on pricing methodologies and billing frameworks.
  • Own the financial systems roadmap. Every system decision made with data integrity, automation, and AI-readiness in mind.
  • Build the data layer that powers the company. The ERP feeds dashboards, AI agents, and leadership decisions across every function. You'll democratize financial data across the organization.
  • Deploy AI to eliminate transactional work — reconciliations, variance analysis, anomaly detection — redirecting capacity toward forward-looking analysis and strategic insight.
  • Partner cross-functionally with product/eng on billing architecture, sales/CS on pricing strategy, and the CEO on resource allocation and growth planning.
  • Drive continuous improvement through AI and automation. Fewer late adjustments, shorter close cycles, real-time visibility — a function that scales with AI leverage, not headcount.
