About The Position

The Medical Council of Canada (MCC) is seeking a seasoned bilingual communications professional to lead strategic communications initiatives that support organizational priorities and emerging business lines. This role is suited to a senior communicator with strong judgment, political acuity, and the ability to translate complex issues into clear, compelling communications strategies. As Strategic Communications Project Lead, you will serve as a trusted advisor to internal leaders and project teams, providing strategic counsel while leading the development and execution of integrated, multi-channel communications and engagement plans. Reporting to the Executive Director, External Relations and Communications, you will work in a fast-paced, bilingual environment and collaborate with interested parties across Canada’s medical education and healthcare sectors. You will play a key role in advancing MCC initiatives through strategic planning, high-quality communications products, and targeted engagement strategies that build awareness, strengthen relationships, and support organizational goals.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of progressively responsible and relevant communications, engagement or external relations experience.
  • Experience dealing with politically contentious issues/environments
  • Experience with multiple interested party projects and/or government funded projects
  • Experience developing integrated communications, engagement and external relations/engagement strategies and programs
  • Experience acting as an official spokesperson for strategic initiatives, and experience with news media campaigns, including media relations strategies and developing key messaging, news releases, backgrounders and Qs & As
  • Ability to conduct interested party outreach and engagement initiatives in English and in French
  • Strong computer skills and excellent knowledge of MS Office, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Ability to adapt the writing style and content to a specific audience, as well as to the intended media/channel for distribution/dissemination
  • Proven research and analytical skills to assess and develop an understanding of complex issues, monitor trends and evaluate among different options/approaches
  • Excellent knowledge of current communications best practices
  • Strong knowledge of digital culture, trends and platforms, as well as emerging trends, best practices and innovations
  • Excellent knowledge and experience relating to digital communications including social media
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships with high-level interested parties across the medical community and in government
  • Proven leader and team player with strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to research and organize information, multi-task, meet deadlines and work under pressure
  • Exceptional organizational and time-management skills
  • Degree Public relations, journalism or communications or a suitable combination of relevant experience and related education
  • Fully bilingual (English/French) with the ability to communicate clearly, professionally, and effectively in both languages.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development of high-quality communications and marketing materials, including web content, webinars, fact sheets, presentations, program collateral, and explainer videos.
  • Produce clear, engaging content for internal and external audiences, ensuring alignment with MCC brand, tone, and messaging standards.
  • Coordinate the development and delivery of communications products across multiple platforms in collaboration with digital, design, and communications colleagues.
  • Develop materials that support interested party outreach, engagement, and uptake of new programs, tools, and initiatives.
  • Develop and implement integrated communications strategies and plans in support of a new MCC business line and related initiatives.
  • Provide strategic communications counsel to internal clients and project teams, translating complex concepts into clear messaging and effective communications approaches.
  • Serve as a primary communications contact for assigned projects, working closely with internal teams to understand objectives and communications needs.
  • Build strong working relationships with internal clients and acts as a trusted advisor throughout project development and implementation.
