About The Position

Our government client within the Department of War (DoW) requires contractor support to assist the External Affairs team. The specialist will support the team in managing communications, stakeholder engagements, and public affairs strategies related to special operations and low-intensity conflict policies. The specialist will provide strategic communication support, media relations assistance, and stakeholder engagement coordination. The individual will work closely with government personnel to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of information and alignment with DoW objectives.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in public affairs, strategic communications, media relations, or a related field, preferably within the Department of War, national security sector, or federal government.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills; ability to synthesize complex, sensitive policy issues into clear, concise messaging for various audiences. Proficiency in standard office software and communication tools.
  • Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance (as required by the specific task order)
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Political Science, International Relations, Journalism, or a related discipline.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior experience working directly with Special Operations Forces (SOF) or related national security communities.
  • Established relationships or familiarity with defense media and relevant think tanks.

Responsibilities

  • Strategic Communications: Draft, edit, and review talking points, speeches, press releases, public statements, and briefing materials for senior leadership.
  • Media Relations: Assist in monitoring media coverage relevant to SO/LIC operations and policies. Help prepare responses to media inquiries and coordinate with DoD Public Affairs.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Coordinate meetings, briefings, and events with external stakeholders, including Congress, other government agencies, international partners, think tanks, and non-governmental organizations.
  • Content Creation: Develop comprehensive communication plans and digital/multimedia content to highlight SO/LIC initiatives, programs, and achievements.
  • Administrative & Analytical Support: Maintain communication trackers, contact databases, media lists, and event calendars. Provide analysis of media trends and engagement outcomes.
