About The Position

Anthropic is hiring a Strategic Advisor for the Strategic Advisory team within Policy Advocacy, part of its Public Policy team. This individual-contributor role supports the development, documentation, translation, and deployment of Anthropic’s policy positions. The advisor will own a portfolio of strategically important positions and work as a peer with colleagues across policy, legal, communications, product policy, research, and other teams. The role involves turning technical research and policy analysis into materials that external-facing teams can use, helping resolve contested positions, and leading cross-functional policy work in fast-moving or ambiguous situations. Examples include producing complete position packages, developing rapid-response plans, coordinating policy strategy for major launches, establishing working groups, and translating complex issues into deployable narratives. The position offers an opportunity to shape Anthropic’s policy voice on AI governance while contributing with a practical, service-oriented approach. Anthropic currently expects staff to work from an office at least 25% of the time, though some roles may require more. The role requires a bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience, in a field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Requirements

  • Direct experience developing and testing messages for policy, advocacy, or communications audiences.
  • Experience translating scientific, engineering, or deeply technical policy material for non-expert decision-makers.
  • Ability to work across multiple policy issue areas simultaneously and build fluency in new areas quickly.
  • Interest in and some experience with technology policy.
  • Experience building or running rapid-response processes, crisis playbooks, or signature programs in fast-moving environments.
  • Ability and willingness to serve internal clients, including federal, state, and international affairs colleagues, without needing to own external relationships.
  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.
  • A field of study relevant to the role, demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Eight to ten or more years of professional experience in corporate public affairs, management consulting, government relations, policy or political campaigns, think tanks, or similar fast-paced, cross-functional environments.
  • Experience in technology, financial services, energy, pharmaceuticals, or other heavily regulated industries.
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate emerging issues and proactively develop organizational perspectives.
  • Experience designing and running a signature program or flagship campaign end to end.
  • Experience translating topics for policy-relevant audiences through communications, visual storytelling, marketing, or advocacy.
  • Deep AI policy expertise.

Responsibilities

  • Own a portfolio of high-priority policy positions and related materials, including position papers, FAQs, talking points, and fact sheets; manage versions, audiences, strategic relevance, and internal access.
  • Build organizational consensus on contested technical policy positions by working with subject matter experts across policy, legal, communications, and research; moderate disagreement and document outcomes.
  • Develop and test message framings with internal and external audiences, iterating quickly and evaluating what is effective and why.
  • Translate technical research, model capabilities, and scientific content into policy-ready language for policymakers, staff, and legislators.
  • Advise federal, state, and international affairs teams, improve their processes, establish shared material libraries, and develop the collateral and strategies they need.
  • Drive complex cross-functional policy projects to resolution when no single team owns the work end to end, including model launch strategy, narrative coordination, and emerging-issue working groups.
  • Develop rapid-response playbooks for time-sensitive events, coordinating across legal, research, and external affairs.
  • Partner with policy communications to maintain consistency of messaging and voice across Anthropic’s policy work.
  • Anticipate emerging issues, work with internal experts to develop Anthropic’s perspective, and prepare materials before external pressure arises.
