About The Position

Pacific Fusion is seeking a Storytelling Lead to explain its mission of powering the world with abundant, clean energy through fusion technology. The company is developing a pulser-driven inertial fusion system and key components for affordable fusion systems. This is a foundational role for a senior writer who can translate complex technical work into clear, credible, and engaging stories. The Storytelling Lead will work directly with the executive team, scientists, engineers, and communications team to highlight progress and the potential of fusion for various applications. This is a senior, hands-on role involving setting the storytelling agenda, building editorial capabilities, writing key content, and collaborating with creative teams to adapt narratives into visual formats.

Requirements

10+ years of experience in writing, editorial, journalism, content, communications, speechwriting, creative strategy, or a related field.
Exceptional writing and editing skills, with attention to sentence-level craft, structure, rhythm, clarity, and voice.
A strong portfolio demonstrating the ability to make complex ideas understandable and compelling.
Experience working with senior executives, technical experts, founders, or other high-context stakeholders.
Strong editorial judgment, with the ability to discern interesting topics and identify areas needing further reporting.
Comfort operating in ambiguous environments, transforming messy inputs and incomplete context into clear narratives.
A lack of ego and willingness to engage in multiple rounds of review for drafts.
High standards for accuracy and credibility, knowing when to push for sharper language and when to prioritize technical review.
A bias towards action and a focus on doing the work, recognizing this is a writing-intensive role.

Responsibilities

Develop the editorial vision for how Pacific Fusion communicates its work to the world.
Determine which stories are most impactful and how they should be presented across different formats.
Partner with content marketing for distribution and publication strategies.
Translate complex technical information into accessible writing without compromising scientific accuracy or overstating claims.
Build a consistent pipeline of stories covering the company's technology, progress, people, facilities, partnerships, and mission.
Establish a repeatable process for sourcing story ideas from across the company, including interviewing technical experts and shaping narratives.
Enhance the clarity and credibility of Pacific Fusion's communications.
Write various content formats, including founder essays, technical explainers, milestone announcements, executive posts, website copy, video scripts, recruiting materials, op-eds, speeches, and internal narratives.
Help audiences understand not only what Pacific Fusion is building but also why it is possible, why it matters, and the nature of its progress.
