Stormwater Systems Tech I-II - Public Works
About The Position
The City of Greeley is seeking qualified candidates to join the Stormwater Division as a Stormwater Systems Technician I or II. This position is responsible for maintaining, repairing, inspecting, and constructing the City's stormwater infrastructure to protect public health, property, and the environment while ensuring the safe and efficient conveyance of stormwater throughout the community. Stormwater Systems Technicians inspect, maintain, and repair storm sewer systems, culverts, inlets, manholes, detention ponds, drainage channels, and other stormwater facilities. This position operates a variety of equipment, performs emergency flood response, supports regulatory compliance, supports city wide snow and ice removal, and works collaboratively to maintain critical public infrastructure. Candidates may be hired at the Technician I or II level depending on qualifications, experience, certifications, and competencies demonstrated. The Stormwater Systems Technician classification provides a structured career path that supports employee development through increased technical proficiency. Advancement from Technician I to Technician IV is based on demonstrated performance, experience, and certifications.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
- One (1) year of experience in construction, public works, utilities, stormwater, streets, landscaping, excavation, or related field maintenance (for Technician I).
- Three (3) years of experience in stormwater, drainage, utility, construction, operating heavy equipment including loaders, excavators, backhoes, skid steers, dump trucks, tractors, or similar equipment or related infrastructure maintenance (for Technician II).
- Colorado Collections System Operator Class I Certification within twelve (12) months of hire (for Technician I).
- Colorado Collections System Operator Class I Certification (for Technician II).
- Colorado Collections System Operator Class II Certification within twelve (12) months of hire (for Technician II).
- Ability to obtain a Class A CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements within twelve (12) months of hire (for Technician I).
- Current Class A CDL with air brake and tanker endorsements or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire (for Technician II).
- Ability to obtain Flagger Certification and Work Zone Traffic Control Certification within six (6) months of hire (for Technician I).
- Flagger Certification and Work Zone Traffic Control Certification or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire (for Technician II).
- Ability to maintain DOT Medical Certificate.
Nice To Haves
- Experience operating light construction or maintenance equipment (for Technician I).
- Experience performing municipal infrastructure or utility maintenance (for Technician I).
- Experience working in outdoor construction or public works environments (for Technician I).
- Experience using GIS, CityWorks, or computerized maintenance management systems (for Technician II).
Responsibilities
- Inspect, maintain, repair, and construct stormwater infrastructure, including storm sewer systems, culverts, manholes, inlets, detention ponds, drainage channels, and related facilities.
- Operate light- and heavy-duty equipment including loaders, excavators, skid steers, backhoes, dump trucks, vacuum trucks, tractors, and other specialized equipment.
- Perform drainage system cleaning, sediment and debris removal, vegetation management, erosion control, and restoration activities.
- Conduct inspections to identify maintenance needs and document work performed using work order and asset management systems.
- Read and interpret utility locates, maps, construction plans, work orders, and engineering drawings.
- Perform traffic control in accordance with City standards and maintain safe work zones.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and vehicles in a safe and serviceable condition.
- Communicate effectively with coworkers, contractors, other City departments, and the public.
- Participate in winter maintenance operations, including snow plowing, snow removal, deicing, sanding, anti-icing, equipment preparation, and roadway monitoring.
- Respond to snowstorms, flooding, severe weather events, and other emergencies by operating equipment and supporting emergency operations as assigned.
- Participate in on-call rotations and work extended hours, evenings, weekends, holidays, and emergency callouts as operational needs require.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
