About The Position

This position is responsible for providing oversight and assistance in various areas related to maintenance. Incumbents supervise staff and assist with long range planning. This job is a safety sensitive position that will require a pre-employment drug test and subsequent random drug and alcohol testing in accordance with Barrow County Drug and Alcohol-Free Workplace.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of related work experience
  • Or equivalent training, education, and/or experience
  • Road Flagging Certificate
  • Georgia soil and water conservation level 1A certified personnel card
  • Valid State of Georgia Class B CDL Driver’s License
  • Knowledge of equipment safety precautions and procedures
  • Knowledge of supervisory principles
  • Knowledge of mechanical principles
  • Knowledge of landscaping methods and procedures
  • Knowledge of traffic safety and control procedures
  • Knowledge of grading techniques
  • Knowledge of plumbing and carpentry principles
  • Knowledge of erosion control measures and principles
  • Knowledge of road maintenance and repair procedures
  • Knowledge of emergency repair techniques
  • Knowledge of traffic engineering principles
  • Skill in utilizing hand tools
  • Skill in supervising and evaluating employees
  • Skill in performing preventative maintenance
  • Skill in operating a two-way radio and other communication equipment

Responsibilities

  • Supervises staff to include prioritizing and assigning work; conducting performance evaluations; ensuring staff are trained; ensuring that employees follow policies and procedures; maintaining a healthy and safe working environment; and making hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations.
  • Supervises and participates in the work of personnel involved in performing stormwater system and related public works construction, repair, and maintenance projects.
  • Supervises and operates light and heavy equipment such as a front-end loader, backhoe, motor grader, mower, tractor, dump truck, hand tools, and other construction equipment in the accomplishment of various department projects.
  • Performs administrative duties to include maintaining logbooks, receiving, and processing work orders and maintaining inventory.
  • Evaluates safety hazards and checks work sites for proper use of equipment.
  • Orders materials, equipment, and supplies, and prepares specifications for equipment and materials.
  • Schedules routine equipment maintenance.
  • Performs other assigned duties.
