About The Position

Merjent, Inc. (Merjent) is seeking a Stormwater Inspection Intern to join our team for Summer 2026! The Stormwater Inspection Intern will support environmental compliance efforts for electric transmission line construction projects. This role is responsible for conducting routine field inspections to ensure adherence to Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs), permit requirements, and best management practices (BMPs). The position works closely with construction teams, environmental specialists, and project managers to minimize environmental impacts and maintain regulatory compliance. This is a paid internship open to students who are within a year of graduating and recent graduates that will be based out of southwestern Wisconsin. The anticipated hourly rate will be between $20.00-$25.00 per hour. Opportunities for an internship extension or employment may be available following this summer internship.

Requirements

  • Pursuing or completed B.A. or B.S. degree.
  • Initiative-taker and with excellent organizational/task management skills.
  • Ability to adapt quickly and work well in large teams and one-on-one.
  • Detail oriented with excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Proficient at the Microsoft suite of products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine and post-precipitation stormwater inspections along active transmission line construction spreads, access roads, and staging areas.
  • Monitor installation, maintenance, and effectiveness of erosion and sediment control BMPs (e.g., silt fence, wattles, inlet protection, slope stabilization).
  • Document site conditions through detailed field notes, photographs, and standardized inspection reports.
  • Identify compliance issues and communicate corrective actions to construction personnel in a timely and professional manner.
  • Track and verify completion of corrective actions to ensure compliance with SWPPP and permit requirements.
  • Assist in preparing inspection reports for submittal to regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
  • Support environmental staff with permit tracking, documentation management, and general compliance tasks.
  • Maintain awareness of project-specific permits, including NPDES/Construction General Permits and local requirements.
  • Promote a strong safety culture and adhere to all company and client safety protocols while working in active construction environments
