About The Position

The City of Springfield is seeking applicants for a Stores Attendant – 1st Year position within the Office of Public Utilities, Division of Supt-Oper Development & Perfor. This role is based at CWLP DALLMAN in Springfield, Illinois. The primary duties involve managing the storeroom, including receiving, issuing, verifying, and recording materials, tools, parts, and supplies. The attendant will utilize a computerized system for all transactions, operate a forklift and skid steer for material movement, load and unload trucks, and assemble kits for maintenance jobs. This position requires adherence to a Facial Hair Policy, random drug testing, and the ability to obtain and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license and forklift operator certification. The role also involves working in various environmental conditions, including fumes, noise, dust, low lighting, and extreme temperatures, and requires the ability to work safely around moving machinery.

Requirements

  • Knowledge, skills, and mental development equivalent to the completion of four years of high school.
  • Ability to work effectively in a variety of environmental conditions.
  • Compliance with the Facial Hair Policy.
  • Subject to random drug testing.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid Illinois driver's license.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain forklift operator certification.
  • Ability to work safely in the vicinity of moving forklifts and skid steers.
  • Ability to tolerate conditions such as fumes, noise, dust, low lighting, and environments that may trigger allergic reactions.
  • Ability to perform duties during periods of extreme heat and cold.
  • Current City employees must have completed their probationary period and attained certified status in their current position.

Responsibilities

  • Receive, issue, verify and record materials processed through the storeroom.
  • Keep accurate, up-to-date records of all tools, parts and materials removed from the store's facilities.
  • Utilize a computer and software for each transaction.
  • Operate forklift and skid steer to move materials within the storeroom and on plant grounds, including moving contractor equipment.
  • Load and unload trucks.
  • Process the paperwork involved in receiving and shipping materials utilizing the computerized system.
  • Assemble kits for maintenance jobs, including updating the computerized inventory record.
