About The Position

This position is responsible for ensuring food is ordered, received, and stored in compliance with regulatory standards and department policies and procedures. The role involves managing perishable and non-perishable products, checking deliveries, handling frozen food products, storing and rotating stock, assisting with physical inventory, and promoting patient safety. The worker will also maintain equipment and storage facilities, distribute food items and janitorial supplies, and may be assigned additional duties such as trayline or dishroom tasks.

Requirements

  • H.S. education or equivalent is preferred.
  • 6 months - 1 year related experience
  • Ability to communicate and be understood.
  • Ability to interpret customers requests and accurately fill these requests.
  • Ability to read English.
  • Ability to lift and carry 10 - 90 lbs.
  • Ability to tolerate frequent temperature changes due to walk-in freezers/refrigerators.
  • Ability to be exposed to water/cleaning supplies for sanitation purposes.
  • Ability to walk and stand continuously.
  • Ability to transport items to various areas of the department and hospital.
  • Ability to adhere to strict deadlines and time constraints.
  • Ability to work as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For lifts over 35 pounds, lifting equipment is expected to be used or lift with at least one other associate when available. Unique lifting/movement situations will be assessed on a case by case basis.

Responsibilities

  • Receive perishable and non-perishable products, check deliveries against invoice, specifications and order sheets to ensure proper quantities and quality are received. Report any differences or rejections to the Department Manager.
  • Handle meat, fish and other frozen food products for defrosting in the proper cooler according to required time for each category to thaw.
  • Store products in proper storage areas, rotating and dating stock with each shipment and dispensing products according to department receiving and food safety/sanitation procedures.
  • Assist in physical inventory of all items and utilization of leftovers and/or excesses.
  • Promote patient safety by reporting of issues through established channels and participating as requested in safety initiatives.
  • Adhere to department safety, sanitation, service/communication standards.
  • Practice safety and sanitation techniques that meet department standards. Use correct body mechanics in the performance of duties.
  • Utilize chemicals according to department and manufacturer guidelines. Practice a "clean as you go" approach in day-to-day task assignments.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and clarity in both verbal and written communications.
  • Demonstrate sound decision-making; take responsibility for decisions. Ability to be self-directed.
  • Attend meetings, inservices and training sessions. Complete CBT, flu shot and other hospital requirements as required.
  • Follow hospital and department dress code standards.
  • Perform additional or other duties as assigned based on daily needs of the department (e.g., trayline, dishroom).
  • Clean storeroom area, including walk-in refrigerators, freezers, shelves, designated equipment and other areas as assigned in accordance with established department procedures, using proper cleaning detergents/solutions as required.
  • Fill requisitions for supplies and nourishments at regularly scheduled pick-up times for ancillary departments.
