About The Position

As a Storeroom Manager at Zekelman Industries – Atlas Tube, this role plays a key part in ensuring the efficient management and availability of maintenance, repair, and operations (MRO) inventory that supports uninterrupted plant operations. This position requires strong inventory management expertise, leadership capabilities, and systems knowledge to maintain accurate material master data, optimize MRP performance within SAP, and drive continuous improvements in storeroom processes and technology. This role collaborates closely with stockroom attendants, plant leadership, purchasing teams, and suppliers to ensure accurate inventory control, reliable parts availability, and streamlined operations. This is an onsite role located in Chicago, Illinois. This role is perfect for someone who thrives in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, enjoys solving operational challenges, and takes pride in building efficient, well-organized inventory systems that directly support production reliability. Requirements

  • 3–5 years of experience in inventory management, storeroom operations, or supply chain roles, preferably in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Post-secondary degree preferred or equivalent relevant experience
  • Technical Skills – SAP, MRP systems, inventory control processes, and strong Microsoft Excel proficiency
  • Soft Skills – strong communication, leadership, interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability
  • Additional Qualifications – ability to travel between U.S. and Canadian facilities; valid passport and eligibility for cross-border travel required

Responsibilities

  • Manage, guide and coach stockroom attendants in their daily duties of issuance of goods, receipt of goods, placement of stock in appropriate locations and maintain cycle count processing
  • Work with storeroom attendants and purchasing to correct material master’s so MRP operates correctly at all locations as needed.
  • Maintain accuracy of material master’s to ensure information is always up to date to ensure correct reporting is maintained.
  • Use MRP system and stock order reports to identify and monitor usage reports to maintain proper min/max levels and adjust as needed.
  • Obtain necessary approval for adding new SAP stock items and follow up to ensure new stock has been created.
  • Identify and manage obsolete parts; segregate as needed
  • Participate as part of the plant management team at all locations to proactively implement solutions, achieve goals to assist the operation group in standardizing storeroom parts, and assuring proper parts are in SAP and on the shelf to keep operations running at the highest levels.
  • Lead stockroom design, implementation, inventory, and support a highly utilized MRO storeroom.
  • Manage any upgrades as needed, VLM, RFID, Vending or other solutions needed to maintain stock
  • Responsible for securing storerooms by developing system access, monitoring, and controls.
  • Implementation of scanning, bar coding, MRP and all other new functionality that will improve the accuracy of inventory, be more efficient, decrease overall risk, and improve the data coming from the material purchase and usage to make informed decisions.
  • Work with buyers and suppliers to quickly resolve any quality issues including the requirement of their corrective action (in the case of a specifically engineered part for our machines.)
  • Establish processes and procedures for maintaining the stockroom inventory – including the process for putting new stock away that will ensure FIFO is followed (i.e. does it go to the back of the shelf, to the top shelf of a multi-shelf part, etc.)
  • Create and maintain procedure manual.
  • Maintain System performance by overseeing inventory cycle counts and system monitoring, analysis, and performance.
  • Responsible for ensuring cycle counts are completed on the prescribed timeline as guided by Zekelman policy, to ensure all parts within the year and key parts on a regular basis.
  • Obtain necessary approvals prior to adjusting cycle counts in SAP.
  • Troubleshoot why adjustments are necessary and fix.
