About The Position

The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is a tobacco-free workplace. All final applicants tentatively selected for this position will be required to submit to urinalysis to test for illegal drug use prior to appointments. Testing will also be performed for the presence of marijuana. An applicant with a positive test shall not be offered employment unless the applicant submits medical documentation of legally prescribed medications or a recommendation for medical marijuana. The final applicant selected for the position will be required to undergo a criminal background check. An individual assessment of an applicant’s prior criminal convictions will be made before excluding an applicant from consideration. The Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction is prohibited from hiring individuals under a federal or state weapons disability if the position requires firearms certification/recertification and use; individuals who have engaged in sexual abuse in a prison or other confinement facility; have been civilly or administratively adjudicated, or convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, implied threats of force, or if the victim did not or was unable to consent; individuals convicted of soliciting or providing support for an act of terrorism, terrorism, or money laundering to support terrorism; individuals who have been convicted of or pled guilty to a felony where a direct correlation exists between the position and prior criminal behavior. Requirements

  • Formal education in arithmetic that includes addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, fractions & percentages
  • 6 mos. trg. or 6 mos. exp. in inventory control
  • 3 mos. trg. or 3 mos. exp. in OSHA &/or other safety standards & practices applicable to storeroom or warehouse operations.
  • In addition, employees working in a drug central warehouse or storeroom must pass security screen.

Responsibilities

  • Lead team of incarcerated individuals (i.e., provides work direction and training) in receiving, inspecting, storing, and distributing stock, supplies and/or equipment in assigned work areas (e.g., warehouse, quartermaster, laundry, commissary)
  • Enforces storeroom or warehouse procedures
  • Inventories and orders supplies
  • Completes and maintains shipping, receiving and inventory records
  • Receives clothing and shoes for incarcerated individuals
  • Receives clothing and equipment for staff
  • Issues and/or exchanges clothing items and shoes for incarcerated individuals
  • Issues and/or exchanges clothing items and equipment for staff
  • Stores and rotates stock
  • Updates and maintains logs and records, maintains perpetual inventory
  • Labels and/or prices stock items
  • Follows all applicable safety rules, policies, and procedures.
  • Operates all related equipment assigned to area
  • Opens incoming mail and physically inspects contents
  • Operates x-ray equipment to scan incoming parcels and packages for detection of potentially threatening and/or suspicious materials (contraband)
  • Follows security procedures for confiscation of contraband and notification of appropriate institutional staff for investigation
  • Operates postage machines (e.g. postage scale, meter machine) to process incoming/outgoing mail (e.g. sorts mail for most efficient handling)
  • Determines class of mail
  • Sets postage meters: date and time stamps, opens, bundles, addresses
  • Completes documentation associated with special mail handling such as certified return receipts or receipts for insurance
  • Ensures prompt handling of time sensitive documents that could have impact on legal notifications) and delivers to appropriate office and/or picks up mail, parcels and/or messages
  • Prepares and submits all applicable reports when required and/or requested and ensures audit control of records
  • Distributes cleaning supplies, paper products, dry goods and other food items
  • Receives clothing and shoes from incarcerated individuals being released
  • Receives clothing and equipment from staff separating from the institution
  • Loads and unloads trucks and/or distributes contents to various offices
  • Maintains daily record in assigned area.
