About The Position

This is a full performance level storekeeping position within the Utility Support & Project Management Office of Environmental Services. The role requires knowledge of inventory control, stock handling, office practices, and material characteristics. Under the supervision of the Inventory Control Supervisor, this position operates and maintains storerooms and offsite storage areas by receiving, organizing, storing, rotating, distributing, and verifying inventory. The position receives and delivers supplies to County facilities, handles specialty and recyclable items such as batteries and copier toner, maintains uniforms and mailroom operations, and uses computer-based inventory management systems alongside paper documentation to track inventory levels. It also provides advisory support to staff by recommending necessary materials and supplies to meet operational needs.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to high school diploma
  • One (1) year of experience in a related area
  • Must maintain a current, valid United States driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
  • Must obtain a Certified Forklift certification within sixty (60) calendar days of hire date
  • Must maintain certification

Responsibilities

  • Receives, unloads, sorts, and stores stock in assigned storage areas, ensuring proper rotation for efficiency and accessibility.
  • Operates a forklift or manual pallet jack to unload and store equipment and supplies, following safety procedures, and performs monthly forklift inspections to ensure safe and proper operation.
  • Verifies the quantity, quality, and sizing of materials against order specifications and documents any discrepancies.
  • Maintains organized storage areas to ensure materials are easy to locate and track.
  • Issues and delivers supplies and equipment to County facilities or other work locations as required.
  • Drives a truck to perform deliveries and pickups, including transporting scrap metal and copper to designated recycling or scrapping facilities.
  • Charges inventory to departments as items are issued, ensuring accuracy in both paper and electronic records.
  • Uses a computer-based inventory management system alongside paper documentation to track inventory levels, record transactions, and maintain up-to-date stock information.
  • Orders supplies and equipment using electronic systems, ensuring proper delivery and compliance with specifications.
  • Conducts physical inventories of supplies according to scheduled cycles and reconciles discrepancies.
  • Tracks and records supplies issued during emergency or seasonal situations to support operational needs.
  • Advises staff on equipment needs and recommends materials and supplies for future requirements.
  • Assembles specialty items and replaces obsolete or damaged materials.
  • Packages damaged or returned equipment for shipment to vendors and ensures proper disposal or recycling of items, including batteries and copier toner.
  • Collects and sorts soiled uniforms, maintains and verifies uniform records, and ensures vendor returns are complete.
  • Distributes clean uniforms to staff as needed.
  • Receives inventory delivered through the mailroom, posts memos, restocks copy paper, and performs related clerical, maintenance, and other duties as required.
