About The Position

The Michigan Department of Corrections is seeking a Storekeeper-A to operate the prisoner store, warehouse, and quartermaster functions. This role involves storing, selling, and delivering items to prisoners and delivering ordered supplies to staff members. The position requires operating computers and supervising/training prisoner workers in store, quartermaster, and warehouse operations. The quartermaster position is located inside the secure perimeter of a secure level I or multilevel facility, while warehouse/store positions are outside the secure perimeter but work daily with prisoner work crews. Store and warehouse staff make daily deliveries inside the secure perimeter.

Requirements

Three years of experience in the storage, handling and distribution of materials, or in the operation of mail handling and sorting machines, and related equipment.
Two years equivalent to the Storekeeper E6.
Applicants who have been convicted of a misdemeanor or felony are ineligible for employment with the Department of Corrections until satisfactory completion of any sentence imposed, including parole or probation.
Must provide at least three professional references and their contact information to include phone number, and email address.
Current MDOC employees must include their current supervisor as one of three professional references.
Must complete Non-Custody New Employee Training (NCNET) either 40 hours or 80 hours of initial in-person training based on their level of offender contact and job classification.
Must complete additional online training to successfully complete their non-custody new employee training.
This is a drug and alcohol test designated position.
The Department of Corrections will not hire individuals who have been convicted of a felony or who have felony charges pending, in accordance with Public Act 140 of 1996.

Some positions within this class series are assigned job duties that may require possession of the Commercial Driver's License (CDL) issued by the Secretary of State as required by Public Act 346 of 1988 to operate a designated state vehicle.
