About The Position

The Salvation Army Midland Division Thrift Store in Marion, Illinois, is seeking a part-time Thrift Store Worker. This position is expected to support The Salvation Army's Mission and perform all functions of a thrift store worker. Responsibilities include interacting with customers, lifting and carrying items, sorting and pricing donations, preparing items for display, operating a cash register, reconciling the cash drawer, and making bank deposits. The role involves a significant amount of physical labor and requires basic communication and math skills for handling transactions. The work environment is primarily indoors, with the sales floor being temperature-controlled, but the sorting/back room/storage area may experience temperature fluctuations.

Requirements

High school/equivalent diploma and one-year related work experience or two years work experience without diploma.
Ability to comprehend written job description, cleaning instructions and material safety data sheet.
Must be able to operate a cash register, make correct change for items sold and be bondable.
Position requires basic communications with customers and other employees.
Must be a team player, a self-starter, and perform well with minimum supervision.
Basic communications and math skills to make change are required.

Responsibilities

Interact with customers and other staff in a manner which promotes positive relationships.
Sort donated items.
Price donated items.
Place donated items on racks/shelves for display.
Assist in loading and unloading of the store’s truck, customers’ vehicles, and/or donors’ vehicles.
Perform clerk/cashier activities.
Perform store custodial duties as directed to include wash windows, dust, clean bathroom, sweep/vacuum/mop floors, carry out trash, etc.
Help keep the showroom clean and neat at all times when the store is open.
