About The Position

In coordination with the management team, the supervision of store staff in daily responsibilities of meeting daily goals, merchandise organization, production, customer service, and sales while maintaining a clean organized retail setting. When the Store Manager is not on site, the Store Supervisor will be responsible for all daily activities in the store.

Requirements

  • High School degree or equivalent
  • Three years supervisory experience
  • Three years of demonstrated experience in a retail environment
  • Demonstrated knowledge of cash controls and cashier procedures
  • Detail oriented and attention to detail
  • Team player with a spirit of cooperation
  • Able to delegate job tasks and give instructions
  • Strong use of the English language in verbal and written communication
  • Good organizational skills
  • Ability to work with the public in a professional manner
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and maintain poise under pressure

  • Must complete and adhere to Protecting the Mission requirements and guidelines
  • A valid, in-state license and ability to pass The Salvation Army’s in-house driving test and MVR check
  • If employee owns his/her own vehicle, must possess current auto insurance for instances in which a personal vehicle is used on TSA time and/or business.
  • Cash register skills required
  • Ability to use new software programs with basic training.

Responsibilities

  • Train and supervise all employees, volunteers and auxiliary staff working in the thrift store, handling personnel matters and documentation.
  • Provide specific written input for annual evaluations of employees and evaluation of trainees.
  • Provide regularly scheduled staff meetings to communicate organizational goals and recommendations for improving operations, allowing staff input.
  • Ensure all staff and volunteers are thoroughly oriented in safety and accident policy and procedures.
  • Provide quarterly documentation to support merchandise pricing by comparing with other thrift stores in the community and adjusting prices.
  • Handle store sales income daily, including procedures for cash, charge, check, and voucher transactions, daily sales reports, bank deposits, and cash/check donations.
  • Be cross-trained in all store positions and able to cover open shifts, assist in any position during busy periods.
  • Be responsible for the opening and closing procedures for the store.
  • Delegate arrangement for seasonal shopping and merchandise availability, ensuring clothing racks and stock fixtures are kept full.
  • Ensure frequent changing and upgrading of store displays, keeping floor stock attractively organized and rearranged.
  • Manage dated & color-coded tagging for clothing and ensure timely removal of old stock.
  • Reduce prices on donated items that have been on the floor for the designated minimum period, with management approval for specific items.
  • Perform any other tasks necessary for the successful operation of the Thrift Store, Production area, and Fleet management.
  • Ensure proper safety, cleanliness, care, and maintenance of the retail sales floor, production area, building, vehicles, and restrooms.
  • Ensure monthly safety inspections are conducted and notify management of deficiencies and corrective actions.
  • Order necessary supplies for daily operations.
  • Ensure store clerks positively acknowledge and treat all customers courteously.
  • Ensure all staff/workers are treated with respect and fairness.
  • Handle customer complaints professionally, personally addressing sales floor complaints and notifying the Manager of the details and disposition.
  • Be available to attend all regularly scheduled and mandatory staff meetings.
