About The Position
Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager manages the perishable departments, including produce, fresh and packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role assists the Store Manager with inventory management, merchandise presentation, customer service, workplace safety, protection of company assets, and staff compliance with food-handling rules and regulations. The position supports store operations through inventory and ordering practices, associate training, product freshness and presentation standards, markdown tracking, sanitation, and customer engagement. It also assists with cash accountability, security, and adherence to company policies and procedures. Relocation assistance is not available.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
- Ability to learn and perform cash register functions to generate reports.
- Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
- Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit-control procedures.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Good organization skills and attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Understanding of safety policies and practices.
- Ability to read and follow planograms and merchandise presentation guidance.
- Ability and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
- High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
- One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
- Required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

- Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Store Manager with the store’s financial integrity, including cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
- Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
- Maintain perishable stock levels according to store volume using applicable advertising, ordering, sales-history, vendor, and planning tools.
- Train assigned associates in perishable product presentation, freshness, pricing, and safe food handling.
- Train associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
- Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
- Train associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
- Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
- Assist the Store Manager in addressing customer needs and requests efficiently and in a timely manner.
- Maintain daily contact with customers to understand their merchandise expectations and preferences.
- Assist in ensuring sanitation standards are met and train assigned associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
- Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
