About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager oversees the store’s perishable departments, including produce, fresh and packaged meats, dairy, frozen foods, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role supports effective inventory management, attractive and profitable merchandise presentation, quality customer service, a safe workplace, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling requirements. The manager assists with training associates, maintaining perishable stock levels, recording inventory and markdowns, reducing waste, and ensuring correct product freshness, pricing, stocking, rotation, grading, and repackaging. The role also supports cash and security controls, sanitation standards, customer service, and other store operations as directed by the Store Manager.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions to generate reports.
Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies and practices.
Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandise presentation guidance.
Ability and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of experience in a retail environment preferred.
Six months of supervisory experience preferred.
Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager with financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, and compliance with security and cash-control procedures.
Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
Maintain appropriate perishable stock levels based on store volume using applicable ads, planners, order guides, sales histories, and recap tools.
Train assigned associates on presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishable departments.
Train associates in safe food handling and compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
Train associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Train associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner.
Maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and preferences.
Help ensure sanitation standards are met and train assigned associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
