About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager oversees the perishable departments, including produce, fresh and packaged meats, dairy, frozen foods, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role supports efficient inventory management, appealing and profitable merchandise presentation, quality customer service, a safe working environment, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling rules and regulations. The position helps maintain appropriate perishable stock levels, train associates in product presentation and handling, stocking and rotation, and sanitation, and record markdowns and inventory information. It also supports cash and security controls, responds to customer needs, and assists with other store operations as directed by the Store Manager.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Ability to learn and perform cash-register functions and generate reports.
Ability to review Operating Statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies and practices.
Ability to read and follow plan-o-grams and merchandise-presentation guidance.
Ability and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
Required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager with financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
Maintain appropriate perishable stock levels based on store volume using the applicable ads, planners, order guides, sales histories, and ordering tools.
Train assigned associates in presentation, freshness, pricing, safe food handling, stocking, and rotation standards for perishable products.
Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Train assigned associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
Accurately record inventory levels when requested by the Store Support Center.
Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner; maintain daily contact with customers to understand their merchandise expectations and preferences.
Help ensure sanitation standards are met and train associates in perishable departments using the Cleaning Schedule.
Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
