About The Position
Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager oversees the perishable departments, including produce, fresh meat, packaged meats and dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role supports effective inventory management, attractive and profitable merchandise presentation, quality customer service, workplace safety, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling rules and regulations. The manager helps maintain appropriate perishable stock levels, trains assigned associates in product presentation, freshness, pricing, safe food handling, stocking, rotation, produce grading and repackaging, and sanitation practices. The role also records markdowns and inventory levels, analyzes markdown causes, and assists the Store Manager with customer service, cash accountability, security practices, and other operational areas as directed.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
- Ability to learn and perform cash register functions and generate reports.
- Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
- Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control procedures.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Good organization skills and attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Understanding of safety policies and practices.
- Ability to read and follow plan-o-grams and merchandise presentation guidance.
- Ability and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
- Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience are preferred.
- Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Store Manager with financial integrity, cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
- Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
- Maintain perishable stock levels based on store volume using applicable ads, planners, order guides, sales histories, and recap tools.
- Assist in training associates on presentation, freshness, pricing, and safe food handling standards for perishable departments.
- Train assigned associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
- Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
- Train assigned associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
- Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
- Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner, and maintain daily contact with customers to understand their merchandise expectations.
- Assist with sanitation compliance and train assigned associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
- Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
