About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager manages the perishable departments, including produce, fresh meat, packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role assists the Store Manager with inventory management, merchandise presentation, customer service, workplace safety, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling requirements. The position supports the store’s financial integrity and operations by following company policies and procedures, maintaining appropriate perishable stock levels, training associates, managing markdowns and inventory records, and helping ensure customers’ needs are addressed. It also assists with sanitation standards and other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions to generate reports.
Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Good organization skills and attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies and practices.
Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandise-presentation guidance.
Willingness and ability to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience preferred.
Six months of supervisory experience preferred.
Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in maintaining the store’s financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
Maintain perishable stock levels based on store volume using current ads and planners, order guides, sales history, vendor guides, and bread planning and stales recaps.
Train assigned associates on presentation, freshness, and pricing standards in perishable departments.
Train assigned associates in safe food handling and compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
Train assigned associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Train assigned associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
Record inventory levels accurately when requested by the Store Support Center.
Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner.
Maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and preferences.
Help ensure compliance with sanitation standards and train assigned perishable-department associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
