About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager manages the perishable departments, including produce, fresh and packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The position assists the Store Manager with inventory management, merchandise presentation, customer service, workplace safety, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling requirements. The role supports department operations by maintaining appropriate stock levels, training associates in product presentation, freshness, pricing, food handling, stocking, rotation, and sanitation, and recording markdowns and inventory levels. It also assists with cash accountability, security practices, customer service, and other store operations as directed by the Store Manager.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions and generate reports.
Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Good organization skills and attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies and practices.
Ability to read and follow planograms and merchandise-presentation guidance.
Ability and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in maintaining the store’s financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
Maintain appropriate perishable stock levels based on store volume using the listed ads, planners, order guides, sales history, and vendor resources.
Assist in training associates on presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishable areas.
Assist in training associates in safe food handling in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
Train associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Train associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and in a timely manner; maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and preferences.
Assist with sanitation compliance and train assigned associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
