About The Position
Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager manages the produce, fresh meat, packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery departments. The role assists the Store Manager with inventory management, merchandise presentation, customer service, maintaining a safe work environment, protecting company assets, and ensuring staff compliance with food-handling requirements. The position helps maintain appropriate perishable stock levels, trains associates in product presentation, freshness, pricing, safe food handling, stocking, rotation, grading, and repackaging, and records markdowns and inventory. It also supports sanitation standards, customer needs, financial controls, and other store operations as directed by the Store Manager.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
- Ability to learn and perform cash register functions and generate reports.
- Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
- Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Good organization skills and attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of safety policies and practices.
- Ability to read and follow planograms and merchandise-presentation guidance.
- Ability and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
- High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
- Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.
Nice To Haves
- One year of experience in a retail environment.
- Six months of supervisory experience.
- Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Store Manager with financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
- Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
- Maintain perishable stock levels based on store volume using the specified ads, planners, order guides, sales history, and vendor tools.
- Train assigned associates in presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishable areas.
- Train assigned associates in proper and safe food handling in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
- Train assigned associates in stocking and rotating perishable products.
- Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
- Train assigned associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
- Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
- Help ensure customers’ needs and requests are addressed efficiently and promptly, and maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and desires.
- Help ensure sanitation standards are met and train assigned associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
- Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
