About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager oversees the perishable departments, including produce, fresh meat, packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role supports the Store Manager in managing inventory, presenting merchandise attractively and profitably, providing quality customer service, maintaining a safe working environment, protecting company assets, and ensuring compliance with food-handling requirements. The manager helps maintain appropriate perishable stock levels, train associates, monitor markdowns and inventory, and uphold sanitation and merchandise-quality standards. The position may also assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions and generate reports.
Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, including sales, profitability, inventory turn, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety-control policies and practices.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies and practices.
Ability to read and follow planograms and merchandise-presentation guidance.
Willingness and ability to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager with financial integrity, including cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
Maintain perishable stock levels appropriate to store volume using company ordering and planning guides, sales history, and other listed tools.
Train assigned associates on presentation, freshness, pricing, safe food handling, stocking, and product rotation standards.
Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
Train produce associates in grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
Help ensure customer needs and requests are addressed efficiently and promptly, and maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and preferences.
Help ensure sanitation standards are met and train assigned associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
