About The Position
Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, the Store Perishable Manager manages the perishable departments, including produce, fresh meat, packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. The role assists the Store Manager with inventory management, merchandise presentation, customer service, workplace safety, company asset protection, and staff compliance with food-handling rules and regulations. The position supports store financial integrity and operational compliance, maintains perishable inventory levels, and trains associates in product presentation, freshness, pricing, safe food handling, stocking, rotation, produce grading and repackaging, and sanitation. It also records markdowns and inventory information, works to address customer needs, and assists with other store operations as directed.
Requirements
- Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
- Ability to learn and perform cash register functions to generate reports.
- Ability to review Operating Statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
- Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
- Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
- Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective interpersonal and oral and written communication skills.
- Understanding of safety policies and practices.
- Ability to read and follow plan-o-gram and merchandise-presentation guidance.
- Willingness and ability to comply with company policies and procedures.
- Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
- Attainment of required local and state food-handling certifications, if applicable.
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
Nice To Haves
- High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
- One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience are preferred.
- Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Assist the Store Manager with financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
- Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
- Maintain perishable stock levels based on store volume using applicable ads, planners, order guides, sales history, and vendor guides.
- Train assigned associates in perishable product presentation, freshness, and pricing standards.
- Train assigned associates in safe food handling in compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
- Train assigned associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
- Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and take corrective action to prevent recurrence.
- Train assigned associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
- Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
- Assist the Store Manager in addressing customer needs and requests efficiently and in a timely manner.
- Maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and preferences.
- Assist with sanitation compliance and train assigned perishable-department associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
- Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
