About The Position

Under the general supervision of the Store Manager, manages the perishable departments, including produce, fresh and packaged meats, dairy, frozen food, bread, and thaw-and-sell bakery products. Assists the Store Manager with inventory management, merchandise presentation, customer service, workplace safety, protection of company assets, and compliance with food-handling rules and regulations. The role supports store financial integrity and adherence to company procedures, maintains appropriate perishable stock levels, and helps train associates in stocking, presentation, freshness, pricing, food handling, rotation, and produce grading and repackaging. It also involves recording markdowns and inventory, addressing customer needs, maintaining sanitation standards, and assisting with other store operations as directed by the Store Manager.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions to generate reports.
Ability to review operating statements and identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, shrink, and errors.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Good organization skills and attention to detail.
Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Understanding of safety policies and practices.
Ability to read and follow plan-o-grams and merchandise presentation guidance.
Ability and willingness to comply with company policies and procedures.
Ability and willingness to obtain required food-handling certifications.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience preferred.
Regularly drive or provide own transportation for work-related duties.
Frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Previous lead experience and/or grocery store experience preferred.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience and six months of supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist the Store Manager in maintaining financial integrity through cash accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Follow company policies and procedures and assist the Store Manager in ensuring employee compliance.
Maintain perishable stock levels based on store volume using applicable ads, planners, order guides, sales histories, and vendor guides.
Assist in training associates on stocking, presentation, freshness, and pricing standards for perishable departments.
Assist in training associates in safe food handling and compliance with applicable rules and regulations.
Train associates in proper stocking and rotation of perishable products.
Record perishable markdowns, analyze their causes, and work with the Store Manager on corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Train associates in produce grading and repackaging standards to minimize markdowns.
Accurately record inventory levels as requested by the Store Support Center.
Assist the Store Manager in addressing customer needs and requests efficiently and in a timely manner.
Maintain daily contact with customers to understand merchandise expectations and preferences.
Assist with sanitation compliance and train assigned associates using the Cleaning Schedule.
Assist with other operational areas as directed by the Store Manager.
Drive or provide own transportation for bank deposits, meetings, and travel to other Dollar General stores.
