About The Position

The Store Manager is responsible for managing all employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The role oversees store operations, employee performance and compliance, inventory and merchandise presentation, financial controls, customer service, and workplace safety. The manager also ensures the store is properly equipped, clean, organized, and opened and closed effectively.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
Ability to perform cash-register functions and generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits and store keys.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle a variety of situations.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, and retain qualified employees in accordance with labor laws and Company policies, and ensure the store is properly staffed.
Train employees, conduct performance evaluations, address performance gaps through appropriate solutions or counseling, and make recommendations regarding pay rates and advancement.
Communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations; coordinate meetings and events to promote safety, security, and policy compliance.
Ensure the store is effectively opened and closed each day; open at least twice per week and close at least twice per week.
Evaluate operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Order merchandise to meet or exceed in-stock targets; review ordering plans, seasonal direction, and inventory issues weekly; follow up on Basic Stock Replenishment and cycle counts.
Facilitate efficient merchandise staging, stocking, and storage by following Company work processes.
Ensure merchandise presentation follows established practices, including appropriate use of fixtures, pricing, and signage.
Maintain accurate inventory by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Protect the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Provide leadership for superior customer service.
Maintain a clean, well-organized store and a safe, secure environment for employees and customers.
Ensure the store has the tools needed to perform required tasks.
Follow Company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Drive a personal vehicle regularly to attend meetings, visit other Dollar General stores, and make deposits.
