About The Position

The Store Manager is responsible for managing store employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The role oversees employee recruitment, training, performance, and compliance; ensures appropriate staffing and daily store opening and closing; monitors business results and inventory; and maintains customer service, store presentation, financial integrity, safety, and accurate documentation. The manager opens and closes the store at least twice per week and regularly drives a personal vehicle to attend meetings, visit other stores, and make deposits.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
Ability to perform cash-register functions and generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits and store keys.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle a variety of situations.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, and retain qualified employees in accordance with labor laws and Company policies, and maintain appropriate staffing.
Train employees, conduct performance evaluations, address performance gaps through solutions or counseling, and take disciplinary action up to and including termination.
Recommend employee pay rates and advancement.
Communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations; coordinate meetings and events supporting safety, security, and policy compliance.
Ensure the store is properly staffed and opened and closed each day; open at least twice and close at least twice per week.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Manage ordering and in-stock targets; review ordering plans, seasonal direction, and inventory issues weekly; follow up on BSR and cycle counts.
Ensure efficient merchandise staging, stocking, and storage according to Company processes.
Ensure merchandise presentation follows established practices, including proper use of fixtures, pricing, and signage.
Maintain accurate inventory through controls for damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facilities.
Protect store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Maintain a clean, organized store and a safe and secure working and shopping environment.
Ensure the store has the tools needed to perform required tasks.
Follow Company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Drive a personal vehicle to meetings, other Dollar General stores, and to make deposits.
