About The Position

The Store Manager is responsible for managing store employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The role oversees staffing, training, performance management, store operations, inventory, merchandising, customer service, safety, security, cash controls, and required documentation. The manager ensures the store is properly staffed and opened and closed daily, and personally opens and closes the store at least twice per week.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
Ability to perform cash-register functions and generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle a variety of situations.
Valid driver's license.
Frequent walking or standing; frequent bending, stooping, and kneeling; some handling of merchandise and equipment; lifting up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 55 pounds; occasional climbing on a step ladder up to six feet; and regular driving of a personal vehicle for meetings, travel to other stores, and deposits.

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, and retain qualified employees in accordance with labor laws and company policies, and ensure the store is properly staffed.
Train employees, conduct performance evaluations, identify performance gaps, and provide appropriate solutions or counseling, up to and including termination.
Recommend employee pay rates and advancement.
Regularly communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations, and coordinate meetings and events related to safety, security, and policies.
Ensure the store is staffed and opened and closed effectively each day; open and close the store at least twice per week.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Order merchandise to meet or exceed in-stock targets; review ordering plans, seasonal direction, and inventory issues weekly; and follow up on replenishment and cycle counts.
Facilitate efficient staging, stocking, and storage of merchandise using company work processes.
Ensure merchandise presentation follows established practices, including proper use of fixtures, pricing, and signage.
Maintain accurate inventory by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Protect the store's financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Maintain a clean, organized store and a safe, secure work and shopping environment.
Ensure the store has the tools needed to perform required tasks.
Follow company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
