About The Position

Responsible for managing all store employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The Store Manager ensures the store is properly staffed, opens and closes effectively, maintains inventory and financial controls, provides customer-service leadership, and ensures compliance with Company policies and procedures. The position requires frequent walking or standing, bending, stooping, and kneeling. It involves handling merchandise and equipment, lifting up to 40 pounds and occasionally up to 55 pounds, and occasional climbing on a step ladder up to six feet. The work takes place in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise, and may include occasional exposure to outside weather, hazardous cleaning solutions, and extreme cold in freezers. Regular driving of the employee’s own vehicle is required to attend meetings, visit other Dollar General stores, and make deposits.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit control.
Ability to perform cash-register functions and generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits and store keys.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle a variety of situations.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, and retain qualified employees in accordance with labor laws and Company policies; ensure the store is properly staffed.
Train employees, conduct performance evaluations, identify performance gaps, and provide appropriate solutions or counseling, up to and including termination.
Make recommendations regarding employee pay rates and advancement.
Communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations; coordinate meetings and events to promote safety, security, and policy compliance.
Ensure the store is adequately staffed and opened and closed effectively each day; open at least twice per week and close at least twice per week.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Place orders to meet or exceed in-stock targets; review ordering plans, seasonal direction, and inventory management weekly; follow up on Basic Stock Replenishment and cycle counts.
Facilitate merchandise staging, stocking, and storage according to Company work processes.
Ensure merchandise presentation follows established practices, including proper use of fixtures, pricing, and signage.
Maintain accurate inventory by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Protect store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Provide leadership in superior customer service.
Maintain a clean, organized store and a safe, secure working and shopping environment.
Ensure the store has the tools needed to perform required tasks.
Follow Company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Drive a personal vehicle regularly to meetings, other Dollar General stores, and to make deposits.
