About The Position

The Store Manager is responsible for managing store employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The role oversees hiring, training, performance management, store operations, inventory, merchandising, cash controls, customer service, safety, and compliance with company policies and applicable labor laws. The manager personally opens the store at least twice per week and closes it at least twice per week, and regularly drives to make bank deposits. The position is based in Edwardsville, Illinois.

Requirements

• Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
• Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
• Ability to perform IBM cash register functions and generate reports.
• Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
• Effective oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
• Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
• Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits, store keys, and the SAFE program.
• Strong organization and attention to detail; ability to solve problems and handle situations with limited standardization.
• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred.
• Ability to regularly drive and provide own transportation for bank deposits and occasional meetings or visits to other stores.
• Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment; frequent lifting up to 40 pounds and occasional lifting up to 55 pounds; occasional ladder climbing.

Responsibilities

• Recruit, select, retain, train, evaluate, and develop employees in compliance with labor laws and company policies; address performance gaps through solutions or counseling, up to and including termination.
• Recommend employee pay rates and advancement, communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations, and coordinate meetings and events.
• Ensure appropriate staffing and effective daily store opening and closing; personally open and close the store at least twice per week for each duty.
• Review operating statements to identify business trends, profitability and sales issues, expense controls, potential shrink, and errors.
• Manage ordering, in-stock targets, seasonal direction, inventory, Basic Stock Replenishment, and cycle counts.
• Oversee efficient staging, stocking, and storage of merchandise and ensure merchandise presentation, pricing, signage, and fixture use follow established practices.
• Maintain accurate inventory through controls for damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facilities.
• Protect store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
• Provide customer service leadership and maintain a clean, organized, safe, and secure store environment.
• Ensure the store has necessary tools and equipment for required tasks.
• Follow company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance; complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
• Drive to make bank deposits and occasionally attend management meetings or visit other Dollar General stores.
