About The Position

The Store Manager is responsible for managing employees and effectively planning and implementing store processes, including ordering, receiving, stocking, presentation, selling, staffing, and support. The role oversees hiring, training, performance management, store operations, inventory, customer service, safety, security, and financial controls. The manager also ensures that paperwork and documentation are completed accurately and on time. The position requires regular opening and closing duties, including opening the store at least twice per week and closing it at least twice per week. Working conditions include frequent walking or standing and bending, stooping, and kneeling; handling retail equipment and merchandise; lifting up to 40 pounds frequently and up to 55 pounds occasionally; occasional exposure to outdoor weather, cleaning solutions, and freezer cold; occasional step-ladder use up to six feet; and regular driving a personal vehicle for meetings, visits to other stores, and deposits.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit control.
Ability to perform cash register functions and generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits and store keys.
Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle a variety of situations.
Valid driver's license.
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
One year of management experience in a retail environment preferred.

Responsibilities

Recruit, select, and retain qualified employees in accordance with labor laws and company policies, and ensure appropriate staffing.
Train employees, conduct performance evaluations, identify performance gaps, and provide solutions or counseling, up to and including termination.
Recommend employee pay rates and advancement.
Communicate performance, conduct, and safety expectations, and coordinate meetings and events related to safety, security, and policies.
Ensure the store is effectively opened and closed each day; personally open at least twice per week and close at least twice per week.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Order merchandise to meet or exceed in-stock targets; review ordering plans, seasonal direction, and inventory management weekly; follow up on replenishment and cycle counts.
Oversee efficient merchandise staging, stocking, and storage according to company processes.
Ensure merchandise presentation follows established practices, including proper fixture use, pricing, and signage.
Maintain accurate inventory by controlling damages, markdowns, scanning, paperwork, and facility controls.
Protect store financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash-control procedures.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Maintain a clean, organized store and a safe, secure working and shopping environment.
Ensure the store has the tools needed to perform required tasks.
Follow company policies and procedures and ensure employee compliance.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
