About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The role is intended to develop an external candidate for the Store Manager position and is held for a limited period. The candidate supports recruiting and staffing, merchandising, inventory management, ordering, customer service, store opening and closing, cash and security controls, and store cleanliness and safety. They may operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence, review operating statements for business trends and opportunities, and complete paperwork according to guidelines and deadlines. This position involves frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment. It requires frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds, occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds and climbing ladders, and occasional driving or providing personal transportation for bank deposits, management meetings, and visits to other stores. The work is fast-paced with moderate noise, occasional exposure to outdoor weather, and some travel with limited overnight stays.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling procedures, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform IBM cash register functions, including generating reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits, store keys, SAFE, and STARS programs.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Effective oral and written communication skills.

Organization skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations with limited standardization.
Ability to frequently walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, and handle merchandise and equipment.

High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
One year of retail experience preferred for external candidates.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Support store merchandising, including staging, stocking, storing, signing, and pricing merchandise according to established practices and Store Manager direction.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide leadership in delivering superior customer service.
Model compliance with company procedures and policies.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure company funds are deposited at the designated bank.
Support the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain a clean, well-stocked, and safe store for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Support staff development and recruit, hire, and train qualified applicants.
Help ensure compliance with federal labor laws and company policies and procedures.
Act as a liaison between the Store Support Center and store employees and foster cooperation and collaboration.
