About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The position provides interactive development for an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is intended to be held for a limited period. The candidate assists with recruiting and staffing, merchandising, inventory management, ordering, customer service, store opening and closing, cash and security controls, and maintaining a clean and safe store. The candidate may operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence and reviews operating statements to identify business trends and opportunities for expense control. The role requires regular driving of the candidate’s own vehicle to attend meetings, visit other Dollar General stores, and make deposits. Work takes place in a fast-paced environment with moderate noise and may involve exposure to weather, cleaning solutions, slippery floors, and extreme cold in freezers.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions, including functions used to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle varied situations with limited standardization.
Two or more years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.
Valid driver’s license.
Ability to perform the physical activities and lifting described in the working conditions.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent is strongly preferred.
Two or more years of experience in a retail grocery store is strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Assist with merchandising, including staging, stocking, storing, and presenting merchandise according to established practices and management direction; properly use fixtures, signing, and pricing.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide superior customer service leadership.
Model adherence to Company procedures and policies in the employee handbook, SOP manual, and Company communications.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure Company funds are deposited at the designated bank.
Assist in maintaining financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements for business trends, expense control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Drive a personal vehicle to meetings, other Dollar General stores, and to make deposits.
