About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The role provides interactive development for an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is held for a limited period. The position assists with recruiting and staffing, merchandising, inventory management, ordering, customer service, store opening and closing, cash and security controls, store cleanliness and safety, paperwork, and review of operating statements. The candidate operates the store in the Store Manager’s absence. Working conditions include frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment; regular driving of the employee’s own vehicle for meetings, visits to other stores, and deposits; and occasional climbing, exposure to outdoor weather, cleaning solutions, slippery floors, and extreme cold in freezers. The environment is fast-paced with moderate noise.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret documents such as diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform mathematical calculations involving addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and percentages.
Knowledge of cash-handling procedures, including cashier accountability and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform cash register functions, including those needed to generate reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Proficient interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Proficient organizational skills with attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle varied situations with limited standardization.
Two or more years of experience in a leadership or managerial position.
Valid driver’s license.

Nice To Haves

High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
Two or more years of experience in a retail grocery store strongly preferred.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities.
Assist with merchandising, including staging, stocking, and storing merchandise; presenting merchandise according to established practices and the Store Manager’s direction; and properly using fixtures, signage, and pricing.
Assist with all aspects of inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide customer service leadership.
Model compliance with Company procedures and policies in the employee handbook, SOP manual, and Company communications.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure Company funds are deposited safely in the designated bank.
Help maintain the store’s financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements to identify business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
