About The Position

The Store Manager Candidate supports the Store Manager in implementing store processes, including employee supervision, staffing, inventory management, stocking and receiving, paperwork, and other store needs. The position is intended to provide interactive development for an external candidate for the Store Manager role and is held for a limited period. The candidate may operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence and supports recruiting, staffing, merchandising, inventory, customer service, store safety and security, cash controls, and compliance with company procedures. The role involves reviewing operating statements and completing paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.

Requirements

Ability to read and interpret diagrams, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations, including percentages.
Knowledge of cash handling procedures, cashier accountability, and deposit controls.
Ability to learn and perform IBM cash register functions, including generating reports.
Knowledge of inventory management and merchandising practices.
Knowledge of cash, facility, and safety control policies and practices, including deposits, store keys, SAFE, and STARS programs.
Knowledge of recruiting, interviewing, hiring, counseling, and termination practices, including legal compliance and internal processes.
Effective oral and written communication skills.
Effective interpersonal skills.
Effective organization skills and attention to detail.
Ability to solve problems and handle situations with limited standardization.
High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
Occasional travel is required, with limited overnight stays.
Frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and handling merchandise and equipment.
Frequent lifting of up to 40 pounds and occasional lifting of up to 55 pounds.
Occasional ladder climbing and driving or providing own transportation for work-related travel.

Nice To Haves

One year of experience in a retail environment is preferred for external candidates.
Bilingual Spanish speakers may be preferred at certain store locations.

Responsibilities

Assist with recruiting and staffing activities, including recruiting, hiring, and training qualified applicants.
Assist with merchandising, staging, stocking, storage, presentation, signing, and pricing of merchandise.
Assist with inventory management, including damages, markdowns, register scanning, paperwork, facility controls, and conducting inventories.
Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
Provide customer service leadership and respond to customer needs.
Follow company procedures and policies and serve as a role model for employees.
Participate in store opening and closing activities.
Ensure company funds are safely deposited at the designated bank.
Support financial integrity through cashier accountability, key control, security practices, and cash control procedures.
Help maintain clean, well-stocked stores and a safe environment for customers and employees.
Operate the store in the Store Manager’s absence.
Review operating statements for business trends, expense-control opportunities, potential shrink, and errors.
Complete paperwork and documentation according to guidelines and deadlines.
Act as a liaison between the Store Support Center and store employees.
Foster cooperation and collaboration, communicate tactfully and directly with employees, and maintain an open forum for exchange.
Provide ongoing attention to staff development.
Ensure store compliance with federal labor laws and company policies and procedures.
Make bank deposits, attend management meetings, and travel to other Dollar General stores as needed.
