About The Position

American Giant is seeking an entrepreneurial Store Leader for its Chestnut Street store in San Francisco. This role involves building a team, growing a loyal customer base, and integrating the store into the neighborhood. The Store Leader will also act as a liaison between the store and headquarters, communicating floor-level insights to merchandising, marketing, and operations teams, and implementing company priorities. This position offers growth opportunities as American Giant expands its retail presence, with the Store Leader helping to shape future store openings, staffing, and operations.

Requirements

  • Minimum of three years of retail management experience; apparel experience strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to drive sales, develop teams, and take ownership of store-level business performance
  • Comfort selling and merchandising across both men's and women's apparel
  • Strong understanding of relationship selling, clienteling, and delivering highly personalized customer experiences
  • Experience with visual merchandising and an eye for product presentation and storytelling
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to operate effectively in a growing retail organization
  • Strong business acumen with the ability to interpret performance, identify opportunities, and adjust strategy when needed
  • Excellent written and verbal communication, with the judgment to represent store needs credibly to a corporate team
  • Positive, outgoing, and highly engaged leadership style with the ability to build relationships with customers, employees, cross-functional partners, and the local community
  • Interest in growing with the business as we open additional stores
  • Familiarity with Shopify POS preferred
  • Availability to work nights, weekends, and holidays
  • Ability to lift at least 25 lbs. regularly and to climb, bend, kneel, and maneuver throughout the sales floor and stockroom

Responsibilities

  • Own store sales performance, communicating financial goals to the team and driving accountability for individual and store results
  • Build and retain a loyal customer base through relationship selling, clienteling, outreach, and consistent follow-up
  • Lead the sales floor with a strong presence, delivering exceptional service and coaching the team to effective selling behaviors
  • Serve both our men's and women's customers with equal depth of product knowledge and service
  • Act as the voice of the customer, regularly sharing insights with leadership on product, fit, pricing, assortment, and unmet customer needs
  • Resolve customer concerns with empathy, urgency, and professionalism
  • Act as the primary link between the store and headquarters, bringing floor-level insight to merchandising, marketing, planning, and operations partners
  • Translate company initiatives into clear, executable direction for the store team and provide honest feedback on what is working and what is not
  • Help build the operating standards, training, and playbooks that will carry across a growing store fleet
  • Recruit, hire, and develop a high-performing team
  • Build a culture of ownership, curiosity, and exceptional service
  • Develop deep product expertise across the team, particularly around materials, construction, wear over time, and the people and places behind how our clothes get made
  • Set clear expectations, provide meaningful feedback, and recognize individual and team achievements
  • Execute in-store product presentation, ensuring visual merchandising and product storytelling reflect the vision of the store and brand standards
  • Analyze sales performance, customer feedback, and shopping behavior to inform future buys and assortment decisions across men's and women's
  • Partner with the merchandising team on size, fit, and allocation needs specific to the San Francisco customer
  • Execute in-store events, local partnerships, and brand activations that drive awareness, traffic, and community engagement
  • Build relationships in the Marina and across San Francisco to establish the store as a neighborhood destination
  • Host press, partners, and company guests, representing American Giant well in a store that gets a lot of eyes on it
  • Support the evolution of the retail concept by testing new ideas, gathering customer response, and recommending improvements to the store experience
  • Drive productivity and profitability through strong operational controls, including strategic scheduling, payroll management, inventory accuracy, and loss prevention
  • Analyze store performance, identify opportunities and challenges, and translate insights into clear actions for the team
  • Maintain exceptional store standards and oversee all facilities operations including cleanliness, repairs and maintenance, stockroom organization, and overall store presentation
  • Ensure consistent execution of operational policies and procedures while identifying opportunities to improve store efficiency
