About The Position

The Store Director is responsible for leading a team to achieve the company's vision of helping all families discover the joy of everyday life. This role involves developing leaders who are dedicated to their teams, guests, and each other. The Store Director leads a team of experts, advocates, and consultants focused on ensuring guests have a positive shopping experience. This position requires accountability for running a profitable and growing business. Target offers meaningful experiences for leaders to build and develop skills for a career. The role provides opportunities to gain experience in managing large teams, recruiting, talent management, guest service, retail business financials, developing store-specific strategies, understanding sales trends, inventory management, and building partnerships with key internal departments.

Requirements

  • 4-year degree or equivalent experience

  • Scan, handle and move merchandise efficiently and safely, including frequently lifting or moving merchandise up to 44 pounds without additional assistance from others
  • Capable of working in and exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, and other elements while performing certain job duties including but not limited to Drive-Up, carryout, etc.
  • Ability to remain mobile for the duration of a scheduled shift (shift length may vary)

  • Demonstrate and promote inclusivity by valuing diverse voices and approaches.
  • Invest in and follow up on personal and team training to enhance skills and capabilities.
  • Drive a guest-obsessed culture balancing in-store and digital guests to meet sales and operational goals.
  • Inform, educate, and promote Target's benefits, features, and offerings to enhance the guest shopping experience.
  • Own the store's overall business to drive efficiency, safety, and sales growth.
  • Review store guest, financial, and team metrics to identify gaps and take action for improvement.
  • Build and execute plans to run an efficient operation and fund future growth.
  • Lead and create a culture of executing all best practices, understanding operational shortage opportunities, and building action plans to resolve them.
  • Leverage reports (financial, operational, safety, food safety, team, and guest) to understand the business and make decisions.
  • Lead a culture of financial accountability by following sales trends, leadership headcount guidelines, payroll management, and hourly overtime guidance.
  • Teach each team how to understand their role in driving sales growth and total store profitability.
  • Assess the competition and leverage guest insights and feedback to drive the business.
  • Build relationships within the store's community to address local needs.
  • Leverage field partners' expertise and guidance to solve problems and collaborate on store opportunities.
  • Set clear priorities for the team by balancing competing priorities and demands.
  • Own the safety culture and performance for the store through modeling safe behaviors, identifying and correcting hazards, assisting with incident response, and validating investigations.
  • Validate in-store security culture by focusing on deterrence, response, and resolution.
  • Validate merchandise protection strategies are executed according to best practices.
  • As a key carrier, follow all safe and secure training and processes.
  • Address all store emergency and compliance needs.
  • Regularly assume store-level leadership on duty (LOD) responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety (including food safety), and compliance.
