About The Position
This position is responsible for assisting store customers in donating, selecting, and purchasing store items; operating and maintaining a cash register; responding to customers’ questions; maintaining the cleanliness and orderliness of the store displays; ensuring the security of store items and the cash register. The Sorting Room function entails receiving, sorting, pricing, and preparing donated items for display in the store; determining suitability and pricing of items based on established standards; assisting in maintaining the orderliness and cleanliness of the warehouse area.
Requirements
- High School diploma or G.E.D.
- 1 year experience working in a retail store
- Six months of experience working on a cash register
- Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Responsibilities
- Assists customers purchasing items from The Salvation Army by ringing-up sales utilizing a cash register.
- Collects monies, counts change, and prepares receipts; prepares and packages purchased items; prepares and balances the cash drawer and runs routine register printouts.
- Receives, inspects, and sorts donated items such as clothes, shoes, household items, bric-a-brac, etc. according to the category and condition.
- Lifts and carries items to the appropriate destination for further processing, storage or displaying in store.
- Maintains warehouse area in a neat and orderly manner; cleans floors, tables, and work areas.
