About The Position

The Storage Solutions Engineer supports the Missile Defense Agency (MDA) on the Integrated Research and Development for Enterprise Solutions (IRES) contract. The candidate will install, configure, and troubleshoot Storage Solutions, Linux or Windows servers, workstation and peripheral configurations in a virtualized environment. They will research technologies and leverage optimization techniques to ensure systems operate efficiently, track storage performance, identify performance issues, and implement optimization strategies to ensure maximum throughput and reliability. The role involves performing necessary physical inspections and research using system/event logs and appropriate tools/software to identify problems, trends, and aid in troubleshooting actions. The engineer will work closely with a team of system administrators, network engineers, and cybersecurity administrators to maintain a high-quality test environment for the Government customer, and provide timely updates on task status and troubleshooting efforts. Additionally, the position requires performing storage capacity planning and forecasting to accommodate future growth and evolving business requirements. The selected candidate is expected to work on complex assignments and perform a wide range of both Physical and Virtual system administration activities with little to no direct supervision, make recommendations to plan, develop and execute work plans that achieve critical-path requirements, and communicate with storage and server hardware and software vendors as required. Collaboration and communication with internal and external team members and customers are essential, as is maintaining procedures for the delivery of backup materials to recovery facilities/sites.

Requirements

  • Must have 8, or more, years of general (full-time) work experience (May be reduced with completion of advanced education)
  • Must have 4, or more, years of directly related experience in IT systems, installing and configuring operating systems and virtual machines, and troubleshooting
  • Must have strong knowledge of storage technologies, including SAN, NAS, cloud storage, and backup solutions
  • Must have familiarity with storage management tools (e.g. 3PAR, Nimble, NetApp, EMC, Dell, IBM, etc.)
  • Must have experience with storage protocols (e.g. iSCSI, FC, NFS, SMB)
  • Must have strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex storage related issues
  • Must have experience building, configuring and deploying servers/systems using VMware
  • Must have experience with the design, installation, upgrading and migration of storage using VMware vSAN
  • Must have administration experience on RHEL 7 and 8 using Command Line Interface
  • Must have a current DoD approved 8570 Level II certification such as Security+ CE
  • Must have, or obtain, an active DoW Secret Security Clearance

Nice To Haves

  • Have experience with NetApp and or Veeam Storage solutions
  • Have knowledge of Missile Defense, DoD communications systems and MDIOC operations
  • Have knowledge of HPE Alletra 5000, 6000, 9000 series of storage solutions
  • Have experience with Python or Powershell programming and scripting
  • Have a Degree in an IT or Engineering related discipline
